hovis advert with the slogan ‘as good as its always been’ misleading advert considering it shows the girl buying her loaf from the local bakers when hovis is sold via supermarkets mainly putting bakers out of business, also it implies it is made in the same style as always even though it now contains additives and preservatives and made by machines rather then hand. It also contain palm oil, an unsustainable ingredient from the rainforests in Malaysia.

text trial animations

following the thought that there were lots of adults in the playground but you could not hear any on the recordings I made these trial animations. I wrote down some things I had heard adults saying in the playground and then used those to base a visual around. In the one below I was experimenting with colours, looking at the different colours of the things in the playground and relating those to the text, for example the swings were red so I used text relating to the swings on the red background. I like the idea of using text but I do not think these tests are that effective.

obscuring faces

i tried obscuring childrens faces. i tried firstly just blurring the face, then i tried pixelating the face. i like the pixelated image.

one of my observations in the park was that on my recordings you can only hear children when actually there are lots of adults in the park too to look after the children. I wanted to explore the idea of not noticing the adults. I tried out this short animation where I have made the adults black and white and also a few images where I have obscurred the adults in some way.

these are the pictures I took on my second visit to the park. I have combined them into a short animation with the sound I recorded. I am going to use these images to develop my work.

first test-time and experience project

For my location project I have chosen the play park. On my first visit I collected some photos, recordings and drawings. The first things that struck me were the noises and colours; The noise from the children playing was really loud considering how many children were there, there were also lots of adults there who you can not hear on the recordings I made. The colours of the play ground were really vibrant and also most of the children were wearing colourful clothes, the colours were made brighter by the autumnal colours surrounding the park from the dead leaves and empty trees. I felt happy being there as it was nice to see so many children enjoying themselves, however, I also felt like I shouldnt be there firstly because I was an adult and secondly because I was taking photos, drawings and recordings. These are the first tests I did were I was concentrating on the bright colours and concealing identity so I wouldnt feel bad fro taking photos!

I tried using the images above to make a short animation. I like the way these images have come out but I am not sure whether they convey my idea well enough so I am going to experiament with a few other ideas and I may come back to this.

I find Rankins work inspirational, I really want to experiment to make up and face paint. I think the combination of colours used are really striking.
